CEDAR Disability Audit

Following a meeting of parish Pastoral Council representatives and the Finance Committee, it was agreed to proceed with the following:

Notices to be displayed clearly highlighting the automatic doors, ramps etc in the Church.

Some seating in the Church will be removed to allow more space for wheelchairs and buggies. Some arm chairs would be provided in these areas as they are easier for people with a disability. The areas proposed was in the middle sections and at the back of the Church.

Three confession boxes will be altered. The kneeler will be removed at one side, a rail will be installed and a chair will be placed in the confession box.

Ramps and rails will be installed around the altar. This is a long term project and will need further work before a final decision can be made.

Ensure that the doors open easily

The sub-committee of the Parish Pastoral Council will take responsibility for the implementation of these changes. If you have any comments/suggestions about these changes, please contact the Parish Pastoral Council either through the Parish Office (01 8332772) or by e-mail at

Clustering

A large crowd attended the special Mass for the intentions of those involved in the parish on Thursday 28th May.

As it also celebrated the beginning of the new clustering arrangements between Marino, Fairview and Donnycarney Parishes, the people of Marino were joined by priests and parishioners from Donnycarney and Fairview. The atmosphere at the Mass was wonderful . The refreshments were also delightful – and both made a great start to the process of clustering! To all those who organized, and took part in the Mass and to those who provided the refreshments – It was a truly magnificent occasion, well done!

The second cluster meeting was hosted by Marino on the 24th June. At this meeting, we discussed the arrangements for the cluster meetings and areas where the three parishes could co-operate over the next year. These included

Training

Evangelisation

Networking between parish groups

Cluster newsletter

Child Protection

The Ryan Report was discussed at the last Parish Pastoral Council. The dreadful wrongs of the past were discussed and acknowledged. It was also agreed that these awful mistakes should not be repeated and that it was vital that the Parish’s Child Protection policies were not only in place, but effective.

Therefore , the Parish Pastoral Council, mindful of the hurt and pain caused in the past, would like to remind parishioners that all

 Adults involved in the parish are expected to behave in an appropriate respectful manner towards children and vulnerable adults

 Employees/volunteers are Garda vetted

 Allegations/suspicions of child abuse are reported to the HSE/Gardai/Director of Child Protection Service, Dublin Diocese

 Those against whom allegations have been made may , on the advice of the Health Board(HSE)/Gardai, be asked to withdraw from parish activities until the matter has been resolved.

If any parishioner has Child Protection concerns/issues, we would ask them to please contact any of the following:

 Health Service Executive, Child Care Manager through the Marino Health Centre (phone: 01 8333421)

 Gardai at Clontarf (phone: 01 6664800) or Whitehall Garda Station (phone: 01 6664500) and ask for the Child Protection Officer
